Hidden treasure and lost Souls
In Defense of the Tiki Leilani Mug
Every Sunday at 6am
….without fail and often supporting the mother of all hangovers, l head off to the Trash Markets. It’s like l’m genetically set up to do it. Yes, l am in search of Tiki mugs but more often than not my best finds are carvings. You Americans reading this will be amazed that l find a mug at the markets about once every year. (Thank the Gods for the internet).
Drinking and Dancing With Fred Astaire
Be prepared to be blown away
This truly is an example of Fred’s pure genius. He dances up a storm to “One for My Baby” from “The Sky’s the Limit” (1943).
Stopping the Demise of Polynesian Pop
I’m not out to depress anyone but
…when you think about all the Tiki bars and Polynesian Restaurants lost to time, what a downer.
Our record in Australia is so bad, no one can really remember what we had or if we had anything at all.
Pushing the 5% Rule …Tim Rogers Tin Soldier
The Careless Navigator struggles to go a day without listening to the great Steve Marriott
…this is a killer version of Tin Soldier by Aussie rock legend Tim Rogers and Talei Wolfgramm…what can l say… Steve Marriott and PP Arnold,,,
Jackie Wilson – Higher and Higher – 5% Rule
I couldn’t resist posting this. He is unbelievable not to mention his band.
The great Jackie Wilson.
Cheers CN
The Swizzle Tiki Mug Collection
Swizzle was close to one of the first to jump on board the Careless Navigator when it was launched last year.
Since then he has made heaps of contributions to the site.
Manuana of Tahiti-Don the Beachcomber
As fantastic as Manuana is, she is almost overshadowed by the location. The old Don the Beachcombers of the 1950′s in Waikiki. Wouldn’t you love a time machine just about now?

TC Bubbles Reviews Larry Manetti’s Aloha Magnum
I found myself recently with a Magnum P.I. ‘obsession’
…and I could not resist purchasing Larry Manetti’s (with Chip Silverman) Magnum P.I. Memories – Aloha Magnum (1999 Renaissace Books. Distributed by St. Martin’s Press).

Tiki Mug of the Week No. 3 – Red Kukukachoo
It’s been a while.
Tiki mug of the week is fast becoming Tiki mug of the month. l will endeavor to get one up on a more regular basis.
This red Kukukachoo mug came home with us on a recent trip to paradise. It is a combined effort, Squid did the design/sculpt and Gecko made it.
The only way to get one is to visit Gecko’z South Sea Arts Studio on Oahu. So if you are heading to Hawaii, email Gecko and make a time to go see him… Hang out and buy some mugs.
