Well it’s all over
…for the Hawaiian Hut in Honolulu without much fan fare. Max from Taboo Island just sent me this in an email.
- Max says… I’ve got some sad info for you – You remember, the Hawaiian Hut at Ala Moana had closed a little while ago with plans to re-open later once the economy turns around. Well, I found out that they closed permanently and had an auction to sell off everything. The auction was poorly advertised (I never found out about it until after the fact) and basically no one turned up for it. I heard they sold some things, then gave a bunch of stuff away, then threw the rest away in a big dumpster! I scored an amazing 8 foot long carved Marquesan paddle online from there, and that’s how I found out about all this. It is classic, vintage tiki. I have no idea if anyone else salvaged anything.
I have been there half a dozen times over the years. lt was a Polynesian cabaret room in Honolulu that sat below the Ala Moana Hotel and next to the shopping centre. It always looked strangely out of place.
We never got a chance to look inside, as the Polynesian Revue didn’t start until after dark and by that time we where plastered in another part of Honolulu. I really regret this now as it was closed last time we where there and now it is gone.
Here are some photo’s l took of the outside from a few years back.
In brighter news Max has moved his Taboo Island online Tiki store from Oahu to San Diego this week in an effort to be closer to the action and keep his prices down.
Check out Taboo Island and buy stuff from here. www.tabooisland.com

I thought l should add this…The fantastic Don Tiki live at the Hawaiian Hut.
