Swizzle was close to one of the first to jump on board the Careless Navigator when it was launched last year.
Since then he has made heaps of contributions to the site.
On the weekend, Swizzle invited me out to his hut to check out his fantastic collection of Tiki mugs.
So we had a couple of drinks from his killer rum collection and talked Tiki.
Unlike myself, who’s collection is more vintage, Swizzle’s is 99% from the modern era.
After purchasing his first mug from Outre Gallery here in Melbourne six years ago, he has accumulated a large selection of mugs from Tiki Farm, Munktiki and his pride and joy, his Gecko collection. In fact if he had to pick a favorite all time Tiki Mug it would be Gecko and Squid’s “Augie Colon” (Inspired by the legendary Exotica percussionist)

Why is Swizzle into Tiki?
“The thing that really interests me most about Tiki is the idea of escapism. After the long working week and not being able to get away and relax on a tropical island, the closest thing we can do is make ourselves a cocktail, put on some exotica and imagine we are somewhere else.”
The Careless Navigator can only agree.

hey swizzle, what’s the south african red heart rum taste like? i notice you can buy it online from australia from various south african shops. i know it’s no longer purely jamaican rum but a blend. worth picking up?
Hi Kane, i’m not sure how much it’s going to cost you, but I personally don’t think it’s anything special. I certainly didn’t think it was a great sipper and for what it cost me, (I think I paid about $60 for it) there’s plenty of other good rums that are cheaper i’d use if your just going to mix with it.
