Feelin’ a bit shaky this morning?
…maybe you were at the 5th anniversary of the Melbourne Rum Club, hosted by Golden Monkey last night.
What a tribute to Melbourne’s (and inter-state’s) 60 plus Rum nuts who came out on a cold June night. I am sorry l didn’t take any photo’s… but hey l couldn’t be stuffed. l was more wound up in the generosity of the evening. That’s from everyone starting with the Golden Monkey and staff through to all of the sponsors who have been supporters of Rum Club through the years. There where a heap of giveaways and Rum concoctions to be had…and l had. Cheers, thanks and congrats to all involved…
But that is not what l am here about today…
I’m here about a Tiki Mug. Linus Schaxmann, the brand representative for Brown Forman, who have Appleton Estate Rum gave me one of the newly arrived Brad Parker designed Appleton’s Mugs. This is the third mug they have done with Tiki Farm and is a massive 23 centimeters tall.
I think with all the recent talk with the competition for the Big Toe forth mug, this mug may have been pushed a bit to the background ( it has taken a year and a half to come to fruition). But this is truly a great mug. At the time it was the most complicated Tiki Farm had ever attempted. From memory a 7 or 8 piece mold.
Brad Parker, who is better known for his paintings has come up with another classic modern mug design, the first being his Hawaii 50 years of Statehood mug. He hasn’t designed that many mugs but l have to say these two are easily in my top 10 favorite modern mass produced Tiki Mugs.
Talking about production runs…l heard a whisper there are only 800 of the Appleton Mugs.
l will be talking in depth with Linus at the end of the week about Appleton Estate Rum and Tiki…Yes Linus is a big Tiki Mug collector. It looks like regular readers of the Careless Navigator will get the chance to win one of these Fab Mugs….so stay tuned.

Good to see Appleton pushing the rum and tiki cocktails in Oz. Nice mug, hope to get one one day.
Hey Harro…it’s a really great mug, heavy as hell and looks the part. As far as getting one they are in limited supply Australia wide. l will keep everyone informed about Appleton Estate promotions…l know Brown-Forman are in the process of assigning a brand manager at the moment, as soon as that happens…more info will flow l would imagine.
