It has taken me a while to get around to writing this.

If fact l had no real intention to doing anything on the mid-century soiree that we attend early in August as there has been heaps in the press and on the web about the night. I swear out of the 60 something  attendees 90% must have had some connection to, or work in the media.

My purpose of going to Outre Gallery organized cocktail party was solely to have a few drinks and hang out at one of Australia’s most stunning mid-century homes. Built in 1958 by Architect Robin Boyd in an inner suburb of Melbourne for his family, it was continually owned by the family until it was sold to the Robin Boyd Foundation in 2004.

The event also was the launch of a new Boyd House inspired Shag print “Dickie Bird”…and Shag was there, visiting Australia  for the seventh time l think l can remember Martin from Outre saying.

So a month after the fact, l finally sit down and l watch the footage l shot with my old mini-dv camera…this camera is crappy. No manual exposure and struggles to focus in low light. As you can imagine with the dim mood lighting this camera does not perform well. But it is small and fits into my coat pocket, as does my little point and shoot Canon digital camera.

With a little bit of colorization and some manipulation of contrast etc l have put a rough short film together about the night. l don’t believe anyone else was shooting moving footage so l though CN readers would find it interesting as it is a reasonable representation of the overall mood and feel of the night.
Like l said it’s rough in camera work and editing but if anything saves it, it is the sound track “Under the Midnight Sun” by  Tiki Joe’s Ocean which Andy Nazzal kindly let me use. Thanks Andy…a great piece of music.

Also thanks to Martin, Lou, Gemma, and all the Outre staff for the fun.
